Introduction


        The Research Institute of Computer Application (RICA) at Chang'an University was established in 2000. In recent years, a diligent, efficient, united and cooperative research team has been formed through vigorous studies of various scientific research projects. There are 22 researchers (including 12 full and associate professors, 8 lecturers/engineers, 2 research assistant) and more than 60 doctoral/master students.

In the past three years, the RICA has undertaken more than 30 national, provincial and ministerial-leveled key research and horizontal cooperation projects. The faculty staffs have published more than 150 academic research papers in academic conferences and journals, including 32 papers by SCI, EI and ISTP, and 8 textbooks and monographs. They also have obtained 12 national patents and 26 software copyrights, won the second prize of “National Science and Technology Progress Award”, 1 first prize and two third prize of “Shaanxi Science and Technology Progress Award”, 1 first prize of “Shaanxi Transportation Science and Technology Progress Award”, more than 30 first- and second-class awards for outstanding papers at all levels. A number of researches and inventions have been applied in more than ten provinces and cities in China.


      Main Research Area

  1. Distributed computer network measurement and control technology

RICA has in-depth studied in the field of automotive integrated performance distributed computer network automatic measurement and control system, bridge non-destructive testing technology, electric vehicle computer control technology, etc., and has achieved a number of landmark research and development results. Among them, 3 have been certified to reach the international advanced level, 2 identified at the domestic leading level, and four inventions have been promoted and applied in more than ten provinces and cities in the domestic transportation industry. This research direction has become a mainstream in this area.

  1. E-commerce and WEB application technology

The research area focuses on study of computer application technology in transportation industry. Based on the unique advantages of Chang’an University in research and practice of transportation and logistics management theory, RICA develops the WEB-based embedded software development for procurement, warehousing, sales, transportation, distribution software systems and related supporting hardware devices with cross-platform distributed computing features, according to the JAVA, ASP and distributed database processing technology. At present, the standard version of logistics software for purchasing, storing, selling, shipping and matching functions has been developed and a complete enterprise import model has been formed, and active application promotion is underway. At the same time, the RICA has greatly strengthened its research efforts in remote office automation technology, computer collaborative work technology and visual communication technology. It has made great breakthroughs in theoretical research and implementation technology. The developed OA standard version software has been put into formal application.


  1. Networked integrated information management technology

The research area focuses on the theory, algorithm and system design technology of industry version management information system software and optimization decision support software. It deeply studies the analysis, design, development technology and project management method based on B/S mode and multi-layer C/S mode software. In recent years, the RICA has developed WEB-based higher education networked comprehensive information management system, postgraduate education information comprehensive management system, Shaanxi professional title evaluation certificate management system, networked online examination and test paper review system. All these systems are widely used in relevant departments.


  1. Research and development of intelligent instrumentation based on embedded system

The research area mainly focuses on computer application technology of highway transportation industry, and develops intelligent instrumentation based on embedded system which meets the needs of various intelligent detection and control in China's highway transportation industry. Currently, the RICA has formed its own characteristics in development of vehicle performance computer instrumentation, and has developed various types of testing equipment which has been widely used. In addition, the RICA has made great progress in the development of non-destructive testing equipment for road bridges, especially the invention of non-destructive testing technology for bridges based on rare earth transducers and system integration. As a major achievement of national science and technology project for transportation construction in west region, it has been certified to reach the international leading level.


  1. Highway “Three Major Systems” and ITS

The research area focuses on the key technologies of highway toll collection, monitoring and communication systems, especially in ETC, networked charging mode, network data exchange, traffic flow detection and control, vehicle identification. In addition, the RICA also worked on architecture and key technologies of ITS.



The director of RICA

        Professor Zhao, Xiangmo, Ph.D., doctoral tutor. He won the “National May 1st Labor Medal” in 2008. After graduating from Chongqing University in September 1987, he has been teaching and researching in the field of computer application technology. He currently is the vice president of Chang’an University and the director of the RICA. He is the academic leader in traffic information engineering & control and computer application technology of the University. He is the PI of more than 20 research projects, such as National 863 Program, the National IoT Major Demonstration Engineering Research Project, the NSFC Foundation Project, the National Western Transportation Construction Major Science and Technology Project, the Shaanxi Provincial Key Science and Technology Project, the Shaanxi Provincial Transportation Science and Technology Project, the Jiangxi Provincial Transportation Science and Technology Project. Among them, 3 have been certified to reach the international leading level, 4 results have been certified to reach the international advanced level, 6 have reached the domestic leading level, and more than 10 results have been widely promoted and applied in the domestic transportation industry. He won one second prize of “National Science and Technology Progress Award,” three first prizes of “Shaanxi Science and Technology,” one first prize of “Shaanxi Transportation Science and Technology Progress,” and two third prizes of “Shaanxi Science and Technology”. He also obtained 27 national invention patents and utility model patents, and 32 national software copyrights. Many achievements have been widely promoted and applied in the domestic transportation industry. He has published more than 120 academic research papers, including more than 70 articles in international journals. He also published 7 textbooks, such as "Microcomputer Principles and Interface Technology," "Highway Monitoring System Theory and Application," "Highway Communication System Theory and Application," "Highway Toll System Theory and Application," and “Computer Basics Tutorial”.  The “Microcomputer Principles and Interface Technology” are listed in national planning textbooks. He is the member of the Information Professional Committee of the China Communications and Transportation Association, the member of the Advisory Expert Group, the member of the National Motor Vehicle Safety Technology Testing Equipment Standardization Committee, the member of the (National) Transportation Computer Application Information Network Leading Group, the Deputy Chairman of Shaanxi Provincial Highway Society Computer Application Committee, Vice Chairman of Shaanxi Provincial Computer Society, Vice Chairman of Shaanxi Provincial Computer Education Society, Director of Shaanxi Provincial System Simulation Society, the Member of Software Professional Committee of Shaanxi Computational Society, the Member of Academic Committee of Chang'an University, the Member of Academic Degree Committee of Chang'an University. He also serves for several journals as editor board members, including Journal of the Journal of Transportation Engineering, China Journal of Highways, ICIC Express Letters Part B: Applications, Journal of Chang'an University, Modern Electronic Technology, Electronic Design Engineering, etc.
