The discipline of information and communication engineering in Chang'an University originates from the computational center established in 1983.
In the past 30 years, the faculty adheres to the development concept of Based on Information Science, Oriented to Highway Traffic Industry, and has formed our research directions of intelligent detection technology of road traffic, multi-source information fusion and signal processing, image processing and recognition technology, wireless communication network technology, electromagnetic detection and imaging technology, grounded upon the construction of national key disciplines of Transportation Engineering and the faculty specifics in our university
Around the abovementioned research interests, the team of this discipline has hosted more than 120 scientific research projects in the past five years, including the national ‘973’ projects, ‘863’ projects, National Natural Science Foundation, National Major Transportation Science and Technology Projects in Western China, and provincial and ministerial leveled key projects, with an average fund of more than 20 million yuan annually.
A lot of scientific and technological achievements have been obtained. In the past five years, 3 second award of the Scientific and Technological Progress of the State, 1 second prize for National Natural Science and 12 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards have been obtained.
More than 200 papers have been published in various top journals and important international conferences, and 136 papers have been cited by SCI and EI. This discipline keeps up with the international frontier of information science, and has formed distinctive advantages in research of traffic application technology.
The faculty has formed by introductions a team consisting of well-known experts, academic backbones and young backbones at home and abroad .
There are 22 professors, 40 associate professors, 11 doctoral supervisors and 5 internationally renowned foreign experts in the team.
Among them, Professor Zhao Xiangmo, leader of the discipline, is the winner of National ‘May Day’ Labor Medaland the national candidate of millions of talents in the new century; Liu Ce, an American Professor, is the candidate of the 100 Persons Plan in Shaanxi Province; Professor Duan Liren, a specially appointed professor, is one of the pioneers and founders of China’s transportation informatization discipline.
In addition, there are one national outstanding contribution expert, six experts who enjoy the special allowance of the State Council, four excellent talents of the Ministry of Education in the new century, three excellent teachers at provincial and ministerial levels, and two talents in the Three Five-Year Plan of Shaanxi Province in the team.
Recently, the subject team of ‘Intelligent Detection and Fusion Technology of Multi-source and Heterogeneous Traffic Information’ has been awarded as the scientific and technological innovation team of the Ministry of Education, which indicates that the discipline team has entered the leading ranks in China.
This subject has a perfect research environment by a Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, a Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Communications and a key engineering research center of Shaanxi Province.
By affiliating with the major of traffic information engineering and control in our university, more than 90 master's and 20 doctoral students have been graduated. The long-term scientific research and teaching experience of the discipline team has laid a solid foundation for training of Postgraduates in Master's Degree Programs at the First Level.
In recent years, with rapid development of traffic informatization and intelligent transportation technology in China, demand for high-level electronic and information talents is increasing. At the same time, there are a large number of key technical problems and major technical needs, which urgently need the support of the discipline platform of information and communication engineering with traffic characteristics.
At present, the existing master's degree programs of information and communication engineering in China do not have significant traffic characteristics. Therefore, the establishment of first-level master's degree programs can not only enhance the strength of the discipline, but also provide an important technical and talent guarantee for the development of China's transportation industry.
