1. Overview
The master's degree program in this discipline provides a balance between theoretical foundations and applied computer science with an in-depth understanding of the research status and development trends of computer science and technology. The program trains postgraduates for their capabilities in independent scientific research, solving theoretical/practical problems related to the subject, and cross-infiltration of other disciplines. The degree requires also mastery of a foreign language, with perfect reading, writing and translation, as well as basic listening and speaking skills. The program aims to train compound talents who can engage in scientific research, teaching, engineering and management in IT industry.
2. Training Method
Cultivating graduate students mainly according to independent scientific research.
Postgraduate studying combines advisors, tutors with group training. Advisors are the first-order responsibility for postgraduate study. Each advisor group consists of 3 to 5 faculties with different discipline background, who are recommended in advisor group organization which benefits for the collective guidance.
Postgraduate teaching is flexible and diverse. Implementation of various teaching methods is advocated to integrate classroom teaching, such as seminars, thematics, heuristics, exchange seminars, case studies, etc., which strengthens their cultivation and innovation.
The topic selection of paper and research projects is recommended for practicability.
3. Length of study and requirement for graduation
The flexible academic system is implemented, taking the study for generally 2.5 to 3 years. Earlier graduation is allowable once you meet the basic requirement listed in the following.
Excellent GPA record: The average score of required courses is no less than 90, and the average grade of elective courses is no less than 80.
Publication Record: At least two academic articles related to the research aspect are published in the Chinese core journals. For one paper, the advisor should be the first author and the degree candidate as the second author. For the other, the graduate student should be the first author and the advisor as the second author.
Credit system: The total credits for the course study are no less than 30 credits with at least 20 credits in degree core courses and 4 credits in research and practical study.

6. Thesis
The master's thesis is an important part of postgraduate training. It is a comprehensive test for scientific research or professional work. It is an important process for cultivating postgraduate innovations, problem analysis, program application, and problem solving.
The master's thesis requires clear concepts, correct arguments, rigorous analysis, correct calculations, reliable data, concise sentences, clear charts, and distinct levels. It reflects theoretical background, independent work capability and study attitude of graduate students. In clarifying the purpose, significance and results of the thesis, the candidate should hold a scientific attitude of seeking truth from facts.
The master's thesis must be completed independently by the candidate under guidance of your advisor. After completion, the paper should be reviewed and defended in accordance with the “Provisional Implementation Measures for the Academic Degrees of the People's Republic of China” and the “Rules for the Grant of Doctoral and Master Degrees of Chang'an University”. Prerequisites for participating in the defense are:
Achieve required course credits
