Computer software and theory majors mainly work on theories, methods and techniques in software design, development, maintenance and application, which explores the theoretical basis of computer science and technology development. Computer software and theory have a wide range of study and application, including system software, software automation, programming language, database system, software engineering, software reuse technology, parallel processing & high-performance computing, intelligent software, theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence, computer science theory, etc. The program helps to train students with a solid computer theory foundation, who can engage in research and development of computer software and application systems. After graduation, students are mainly employed by domestic and international IT companies, banks, universities, research institutions, etc.
The School of Information Engineering of Chang'an University started the master degree in computer software and theory in 2005. After years of development, especially “211 Project” and “Tenth Five-Year Plan”, this major has gradually developed into a team composed of young and middle-aged faculties with doctoral/master's degrees. It also has established several research institutions such as software research and development centers. In accordance with the principle of balanced development of theoretical research and application of software development, our study contains a lot of areas in-depth, such as CAD application software, engineering database, and software engineering technology methods. The landmark achievements in these years include: “Research and Development of Visual IP Teleconferencing System”, “Development of Highway Geological Hazard Database and Its Application Software in Southern Shaanxi”, “Design and Development of Intelligent Road Roller Control System Software”, “Xi'an Traffic Management information system planning and software design”, “Hangzhou Huang He shan tunnel monitoring software development” and other projects. Currently, our 10 professors and 12 associate professors in the program have completed 26 research projects, 7 provincial and ministerial leveled projects. More than 70 papers have been published, including 2 articles in SCI, 13 articles in EI, and 42 in core Chinese periodicals. 4 school-level teaching achievement awards are gained in the faculty.
