Introduction
Computer science and technology is the discipline that studies the theoretical basis of information & computing and their implementation in computer systems. It contains engineering issues related to computer applications and program design, as well as scientific issues as computational complexity theory, artificial intelligence, and computability. The CS program offers many core courses to the undergraduates, which includes data structure, algorithm analysis & design, object-oriented programming, operating system, database principle and application, computer network, computer composition principle, microcomputer principle and interface technology, system structure, and compilation principle. The professional courses are designed for four disciplines: “Network Programming Technology Course Group,” “Digital Media Course Group,” “Embedded System Course Group” and “Road Traffic Information Technology Course Group”. The study plan of CS program includes a large number of computer hardware and software experiments. It also offers practical training in the course project, graduation internship, and graduation design. Our graduates are mainly employed in computer industry, research institutions, government or government-sponsored institutions and engaged in computer software/hardware application and design or related jobs. Since the establishment of this faculty, the annual employment rate goes above 95%.
Teaching and research
In 2010, the CS program was awarded the title of Shaanxi Provincial Specialty Program. It has 4 courses in professional direction, with a wide range of research aspects and career development opportunities.
● Excellent faculty in profession. The CS program owns scientific and technological innovation team titled by the Ministry of Education, also regarded as provincial teaching team and provincial-level top-quality courses. Our faculty have undertaken many scientific research projects such as the NSFC Foundation and the National 863 Program.
● The textbooks compiled by our faculties acquired titles as national planning textbooks and the first prize of provincial excellent textbooks.
● Strong professional background accumulation. The faculty offers many different research directions to the graduate students in ME and Ph.D. program, such as distributed network measurement and control technology, information storage technology, smart media technology, embedded technology, traffic information detection technology and etc.
● Good cooperation with international noted industry companies, such as Oracle, Xilinx, and NVIDIA.
Career development
● Postgraduate candidates to be recommended and exam-freed of national examinations (ME/Ph.D.): Top 25% of the graduates each year on candidate list.
● Postgraduate by national examination: More than 25% of the graduates proceed to higher degrees in other “985” and “211” universities.
● Study abroad: Some graduates study abroad.
● Employment: The employment rate in 2012 amounts to 100%. Our graduates are mainly employed in computer industry, research institutions, government and government-sponsored institution and engaged in computer software/hardware application and design or related jobs. The main employment units include Huawei, Tencent and other IT enterprises, state power grids, banks and government departments.
Introduction of the CS Program
The development of computer technology has changed people's daily life and profoundly affected the progress of civilization. Steve Jobs personalizes the computer and puts Internet in our pockets. Steve Mills, the IBM vice president, believes that the world is becoming more instrumental, which applies low-cost microprocessor chip technology everywhere. This evolution brings intelligence together in a variety of things and makes them more effective. The world future highly depends ondevelopment and application of computer information technology. With its wide applications, massive employment opportunities and high income, the CS program attracts many undergraduate/graduate students and has become a major with largest enrollment in China. Relevant information shows that the demand for computer application professionals in China is at least 1 million people each year in the next decade.
Expert Profile
Zhao Xiangmo, Ph.D., Professor, doctoral tutor. He is the owner of national “May 1st” labor medal and the member of the Discipline Review Group of the State Council of PRC. He is titled by national talent candidates for 100 million talent projects, also the expert supported by the special government allowances from the State Council, and the leader of the science and technology innovation team supported by the Ministry of Education.
